Tomorrow will be the Kickstarter launch of Unmatched Adventures: Tales to Amaze and while at times it felt like the day would never come it is suddenly all too close. Tomorrow’s launch will be the culmination of nearly a year of design, revision, testing, dreaming, and hoping from Durdle Games. It’s the final product of a lot of work. And while it would be nice to take all of the credit personally (Myself, Darren loves to take credit for things) it would also be dishonest. That’s why this post is dedicated to all of the people who worked so hard to bring Unmatched Adventures: Tales to Amaze to production.
To start with thanks to Restoration Games and their fantastic team for taking the game from prototype pitch to finished product. Thanks to Justin Jacobson for being willing to listen to our pitch, for a game he never asked for, from the very start.
Thanks to the design crew at Restoration Games as well. Rob Daviau, Noah Cohen, Brian Neff, and again Justin all had their hands on the development of this game. Their knowledge and expertise towards design and specifically the Unmatched system made sure that our wacky pitch would ultimately function within the Unmatched Game System.
One more thanks to all of the visual designers that have touched this set. Lindsay Daviau, Jason D. Kingsley, Ian Reed, and Jason Taylor for the visual design elements in the game. Kwanchai Moriya, Ashley Floreal, Satoshi Kamanaka, Marie Bergeron, & Anne Benjamin for the artwork. Unmatched always brings fantastic visual design to the table and without it the game would not have the following that it has today. We also can’t forget Suzanne Sheldon running the marketing campaign for the game and the gripping five part radio drama created for the teasers.
To all the Restoration Games play testers thanks for playing round after round of the game. Working through the iterations of changes to the game system and through the iterations of the heroes to bring them up to level. The Restoration community provides a quality assurance that just can’t be had with a small group testing and re-testing a game on their own.
Big big thanks to all of the testers that tried the game even before it was in Restoration Games hands. So far back Durdle Games didn’t even exist yet. Back when it was still just a fan-made project we persuaded (possibly tricked) several people into trying our game and their input was incredibly valuable. They helped us work through ideas and more importantly helped us keep the proverbial faith that the idea of a cooperative version of Unmatched was actually worth pursuing.
And lastly thanks to my Durdle Games partner Jason Hager. Ultimately this is all your fault after all. If you hadn’t pitched me the idea of participating in the Unmatched fan deck design contest we never would have started down this path to begin with. But I’m forever grateful that we did. The opportunity came at just the right time in my life and I’ve overwhelmingly enjoyed the process. So whaddya think? Should we make another game? We can talk about it on Wednesday. See you then.
